Scot,
Before my TV (DLP Samsung HL-R4667W, about 3yrs old) went blank, it shut itself off every other day or so, but would come back on when I re-powered it. A few days ago I heard a popping sound and the TV just turned itself off and couldn't be started again. I replaced the lamp, although it looked good to me, but to no avail. I had replaced the lamp before about 10 months ago when the TV wouldn't come on and the three indicator lights were blinking.
Right now when I start the power with the new lamp, I hear a click and a soft whirring sound(fan, color wheel ?) and the TV attempts to light the lamp about 3 times and then the 3 indicator lights blink.
Is this a bad ballast or the color wheel? My uneducated guess is the ballast.
Thanks in advance for your suggestions. I have read both of your excellent instructions regarding replacing ballast and the color wheel and am pretty confident (fingers crossed) that I can replace either. I await your expertise in trouble-shooting this problem and your help.
With Deep appreciation to you and fellow experts.
