My Vizio 47" LCD 1080p TV review: WOW!

I purchased a 47" Vizio LCD TV 1080p a few months ago and due to the fact that Holiday shopping is starting, I thought I'd give a review to help anyone out there looking to buy an affordable with amazing HDTV quality television.

I first wanted to purchase the 42" Vizio, because I did not think I'd have have much room in my living room for a bigger television, and also because 42" were cheaper then.

At the time (back in April), Vizio was only carrying a 42" LCD HDTV television model, but not in 1080p.

The 47" 1080p HDTV was $400 more, so I decided to go for deal, a bigger screen for a few hundred bucks more. It actually ended up fitting perfectly in my living room. It's on a tv stand, not wall mounted, I bought that TV stand at Target for $20 (was on sale from $69.99!) and it does not take over the living room too much, which I am happy about.

The television looks amazing. It has that black contour opaque look like Apple iMacs and a silver base with surround sound speaker at the bottom, which you can remove if you were going to wall mount your Vizio. Something I'd like to do when I move to a new place is to definitely mount my 47" on the wall, I think you just get a better viewing experience, and save some room!
Overall design wise, the television is sharp, it looks really, really nice.

The 1080p is a big deal, trust me. That Vizio 47" can basically adapt itself to any resolution TV networks offer. As of today, I believe only Discovery Channel offers a true 1080p and the image quality on that network is incredible. Most of the other channels, non HD are displayed in lower resolution, and even though you'd think bad quality image on a monster TV will look extremely ugly, it is not at all. What's difficult is watching HDTV channels for a few hours and then have to jump back to regular channels, then you really see the difference!

The Vizio 47" offers a bunch of settings, such as pre-defined image settings if you're watching a movie or a football game for instance, but you have also a custom option to change the gammas et color levels as you wish...really neat.

The sound quality is incredible. I had some buzzing sound problems for a while, when pushing the volume up to 10+ the buzz would be really annoying, but I found out after several weeks that the television was not the problem, but my cable box. I upgraded recently to a HDTV DVR box, and it resolved the buzzing sound problem, now the surround sound comes out super hot at 5+ volume setting.

Overall, i cannot be happier with the purchase of my Vizio 47" LCD HDTV television, this was a real saving compared to the Philips, Sharp and Samsung HDTV LCDs out there, and the image and sound quality is unbelievable. Just remember, not every channel offers HD, so you will have to deal with coping with lower image quality when watching some local or other network channels!

My conclusion is: if you are looking for a really good image quality, with great sound, a sharp look and you're not ready to spend $2,000+, go with Vizio. At that price, if the TV doesn't hold itself for more than a few years, or if new technologies bring better image quality and you want to make the jump on it in 4 or 5 years, you won't have spend thousands of dollars on top of the line HDTV LCD television...and you can now see commercials during Sunday football games that promote Vizio! That has to mean something!
