Great Apple Service
I've owned my 15" PowerBook G4 for two years now. I love it and use it just about every single day with few exceptions.
Pretty quickly, however, I noticed that there was something wrong with my screen. It started out small, one or two bright spots on the screen. It appeared most often when viewing photos.
I got used to it and tolerated it for over a year when I discovered that Apple acknowledged the problem and even had a recall on the screens.
But I knew I couldn't live without my computer long enough to get it replaced. I didn't have good backups, nor did I have my daily routine moved to another computer well enough that I felt that I could get work done if I was without my notebook for 1-2 weeks, the duration I assumed I'd be without it.
With the computer, I purchased the AppleCare extended warranty, plus their screen replacement program is good for 2.5 years. So I wasn't in any hurry anyway.
Finally, this week, I seized the opportunity to get it fixed. A few events created this opportunity. First, an apple store opened in Burlington, significantly closer than any other Apple store. Second, we just bought my wife a new PowerBook G4. After migrating all my applications and data over to the new computer, and spending a morning working on it to ensure that I could actually work on it, I was ready.
Long story stort, I dropped the computer off at the Apple store at about 1pm on a Monday (this past). 47 hours later, the DHL guy dropped my repaired computer back at my house. The shipping label said it came from Houston.
I don't know how they did it, but I would have been ecstatic to have it back in twice that time. Well done, Apple.
