Dyson DC25 vacuum review: the best vacuum i ever bought!

A few weeks ago, my 6yrs old upright Kenmore vacuum broke. Well, actually the plug did break and since the suction was not really so great anymore, and i wasn't going to spend $100+ to get a new cord replaced, i decided to move on.

My vacuum needs

I am the cleaning one at home. With 2 cats (one with long hair) and a 10mths old baby crawling everywhere, i just like my house super clean all the time. I don't like thinking that my little one sticks her hands and fingers in her mouth after crawling around cat hair, leftovers of litter that got stuck in the cats paws, and the rest we all deal with from day to day life.

So I decided to go shopping online for a new vacuum. I have been interested in Dyson vacuums for a long time, not only for the design or the bagless capabilities, but because i have heard Dyson develop some of the best suction technology for their vacuums.

Dyson vacuums

Dyson offers a wide range of vacuums but do to my floor plan, and only 2 stair ways, i decided to stick to the upright ones. I went on Amazon.com and looked at the bestselling Dyson vacuums, read hundreds of reviews and decided Dyson was the way to go. I then went to the Dyson website to learn more about their selection of vacuums and discovered that a few new models had been introduced recently, some that were not yet popular on Amazon.

My pick: the Dyson DC25 vacuum

The Dyson DC25 got my attention right away. It's slick, slim, lighter than my Kenmore upright vacuum and offers some of the most recent technologies Dyson has created.

The vacuum comes with a rotating brush which can be activated or stopped by a simple push of a button located next to the power on/off button. The rotating brush works great and i already took it apart just to see how easy it is to clean, and it is.

Turn it off, and it's perfect for vacuuming hardwood floors (I have bamboo flooring in half of my condo) or the the bathroom laminate/tile floors. It has a directional rotating head that is not only super handy, but so easily maneuverable. You can go around the dining table's feet with no effort, or vacuum alongside walls and corners in no time.

The DC25 is equipped of the Ball Technology. It's that big orange ball you can see on the picture and what it does is that it helps making that vacuum change directions easily. I just love that that feature alone.

No more bags, because the Dyson DC25 has a clear bin you can remove by pushing a button and empty with another click. Just make sure you stand right above the trash, if not make sure the can is half way down the trash before emptying it, i learnt that on my first try, had to vacuum all it back in! That was a silly move on my end, believe me it's really easy.

The next feature i really enjoy is the telescopic arm (ie:"Reach Wand"). I needed an extension, which i had on my old Kenmore, but it was so annoying to use. I had to leave the extension around, connect it, connect the proper accessory to vacuum the stairs, under the couch, the couch itself or in my cars. Also, the kenmore extension was attached towards the top of the vacuum, so when you pulled too much on it, the vacuum would fall down and let me know that when you do not expect to get hit by a 50lbs vacuum right in the back of the legs, well you get pretty mad at the damn thing!

The telescopic arm is located inside the main part of the vacuum, the part you hold the vacuum by. You'll have the check out the animated images on the Dyson website to really understand how it works. All i know is, this is really cool and works amazingly. It's easy to pull out and to fix accessories on. I tried pulling hard on the extension and the DC25 did not fall over, it did roll though and i wish there was a break in place to deal with that but maybe i missed it. I might buy some accessories like a wider brush i could snap on the telescopic wand, to vacuum the stairs but i am not sure they have such product.

Last but not least: the suction is insanely powerful! I have carpet, rugs, hardwood and tile flooring around the house, and it just blows the Kenmore away. I vacuumed our bedroom, which I had believed i kept really clean (i vacuum weekly around the house, wash the carpet at least once a year...) and the DYson DC25 bin filled up the first time around! My wife and I just could not believe it. My daughter's bedroom, where she crawls around everyday, had the same result. I felt awful at first, because that meant that she had been crawling over this for months now, but thanks to Dyson, not anymore!

The Dyson DC25 came into a really nice box, it felt like opening an Apple product. It took me maybe 5mn to get it all set up and ready to go, i just followed the instructions and it was really easy. To be honest, it was kind of fun to put together...

Conclusion

If you think this vacuum is pricey (around $500 on Amazon), i totally understand. But if you're going to spend like $300-$400 anyway for another brand, please take my word and go with Dyson. They do offer lighter models, maybe more adequate for smaller apartments, and even bigger models for big places. The suction and the technology are just amazing, and not only it has a great design, but it is super easy to handle. I read reviews of people complaining it was difficult to use, but I can assure you that even a monkey could use it, just read the instructions, give it a few tries and you won't regret it.
