DLP Display Going Dark?

I get a lot of questions from people who are experiencing their DLP television display going dark.

I can only imagine that it's the lamp that's causing this. Is it possible for a DLP lamp to darken as it gets "tired"?

Have you had this problem? Did you fix it? How?

Yup, as the bulb gets "tired" the screen gets dimmer. I just had my first bulb go in my Samsung 46 DLP and I noticed one day that the picture looked "funny" couldn’t put my finger on it. Went into the settings to see if something got changed by mistake. No such luck. For the next three days I continued watching the TV until every show appeared to be taking place at night. Then on Christmas day the bulb literally exploded with a loud "POP". Took out the lamp to find pieces of glass on the Ballast board. Luckily TV is under extended warranty and a new bulb is being shipped.

Long story short, yes as the bulb goes it will get darker. Not sure if they all explode though. I would hope not as it was a pain picking small pieces of glass out of the set

Thanks Spicoli.

I've had a few lamps go, none have exploded, thankfully.
